This is the first year I’ll be decorating outdoors. I live in a townhouse style apartment but I’ll only be decorating the first floor. A few of my neighbors have already put lights up and their extension cords run through their doors or windows. Is this an okay method? I plan on buying a light socket adapter with two outlets for my porch light. I can plug two light sets into that but I’ll still need an extension cord for the lawn lights and ornaments. There isn’t an outlet on the apartment exterior so how should I go about this? Any suggestions and/or tips are greatly appreciated. Thanks and happy holidays. :)
@lime_dude, Yes, I know. Should I just have the extension cord run through my window?

Please somebody help?

I’m 24 years old and my fiance is 37.
Very recently he witnessed a road accident where a child died. He tried to revive the child who was dead at the scene and has not been the same since.
He has never hit a woman before in his life and normally would step in for any female in trouble so I am shocked that this has happened and the severity of what took place.
I was outside having a ciggerette. My partner had been drinking all day and came out into the yard after me. He grabbed me by my upper arms and threw me into an outdoor chair, when I stood back up he grabbed me by my throat and began strangeling me lifting me off the ground and slamming me into the concrete. He repeatedly strangled me and then picked up a chair to hit me with. I ran back inside and tried to lock myself in our en-suite but he got in and strangled me once more whilst slamming the back of my head agaisnt the mirror. He then threw me to the floor and stood over my body throughing items (hair-dryer, ornaments ect) at me. He ran out of things to throw at me so stood there screaming at me when we heard a loud banging at our front door. At some stage my terrified 18 year old step son had called the police. My partner allowed me to go to the door and for some reason I instinctively lied to them in order to protect him. The police left and I went to check on the kids. This is not in my partner’s nature and I do not believe he will ever reach this point again. He is devasted and cries every time he looks at me and sees the cuts and bruises on my body. I really want to get him help. Can someone please suggest some places we can turn to? Not only for severe road trauma but also domestic abuse?

People love looking at a yard full of outdoor Christmas decorations. Christmas is a time of celebrating around the world and many families see it as a time of extensive decorating, both inside the home and outside the home. Some towns and cities even have contests that are centered around lighting and decorating the outside of your home. You can find almost any type of outdoor Christmas decoration that you can imagine.

Homemade decorations are just one type of outdoor Christmas decoration. They are usually very sentimental and are typically created when family gets together to make these outdoor decorations. They are usually less expensive than buying decorations at a store and can be much more interesting and fun. You can create outdoor Christmas decorations from almost anything, including wire coat hangers. Wire coat hangers can be shaped into almost any shape that you can imagine and then you can wrap outdoor lights around them to help give them pop and interest. You can use strips of wood to create a figure, like Santa, and then place lights around it to give it visual interest.

A string of lights is another wonderful way to decorate your yard. They are the most popular Christmas decoration available and come in all different shapes and colors to help you create the look that you desire. They even have lights that you can hang on your home that look like icicles or you can use a simple strand of lights. White lights or colored lights will look great on any home, whether you want flashing lights or not.

Another type of outdoor Christmas decoration is a pre-made figure or statue that has lights on it or around it. You can find almost any kind of character that you would like from religious ones to Santa to cartoon characters. The air inflated decorations are becoming more popular every year. They stay inflated with a constant flow of air and are lit inside for added visibility. They are quite inexpensive and easy to set up and operate.

Adding outdoor Christmas decorations can be an important part of your holiday decor. By choosing the right decorations for you, you will be sure to enjoy adding that extra dose of Christmas spirit to the outside of your home.

Why Outdoor Christmas Decorations Can Be Fun

Decorating outdoors can be done many different ways. The choices in outdoor Christmas decorations are overwhelming and you can see this in many people’s outdoor displays. When it comes to decorating outside, sometimes you need to remember that less is more.

Fo example, you will be overdressed if you wear your formal gown along with seven diamond bracelets and four diamond necklaces. In much the same way, you want to refrain from overdoing your yard during Christmas. Showing your Christmas spirit is great, but too many Christmas decorations can possibly detract from your outdoor decoration.

It begins to be a problem when you start picking and choosing among all of the different choices available. It is best to have a few related outdoor Christmas decorations than many unrelated items, because it makes the whole yard look uncluttered and too busy.

I have seen yards with revolving reindeer, Santa, his sleigh, lighted palm trees, icicle lighting, and even several of those blow-up decorations. This yard was overshadowed by all of these outdoor decorations and ended up looking busy and disturbing, rather than giving you that Christmas spirit.

You may want to jump into your decorating with both feet, but with outdoor Christmas decorations it is best to refrain. You can use restraint in your outdoor Christmas decorations choices and help to make your yard festive, without turning it into the brightest spot in the neighborhood.

To help yourself stay on track it is best to choose a theme and then stay with it. You don’t want to put the Grinch on top of a manger scene. If you choose the nativity as your theme then choose traditional decorations over the characters. It will make the yard more cohesive and more interesting to your friends and family.

Another thing to remember is that just because you have a certain decoration does not mean that you have to use it every year. You may love the Nutcracker fiber optic Christmas decoration that you have, but you want to do your yard in a more traditional nativity theme. You can just not use the Nutcracker set this year and save it for another Christmas.

It is very exciting to decorate for the Christmas season. It can be difficult to tone it down because all of the decorations are so fun and interesting to look at, but you need to keep it simple. Keep in mind that the people passing your home only have a couple of seconds to see your entire yard. Simpler is better, especially when we are discussing outdoor Christmas decorations.

Simple Christmas Decoration Ideas For Outdoors

Christmas is one season that is so much fun for people who love to decorate their home. The inside of many homes are festively arrayed with colorful ribbons, garlands of fresh evergreen, sprigs of holly and candles. Home exteriors and yards are also treated to some decorating magic. If you are on a budget this year this article has some helpful suggestions that can show you how to decorate with some easy outdoor Christmas decorations without going broke.

Many people have more stress during the holiday season.. Preparing for the arrival of family and other out of town guests can take a toll on you. With so much to worry about, your Christmas decorations shouldn’t be one of them. There are several cost efficient ways to decorate the exterior of your home without spending a bundle.

Ask yourself this question. What will be my theme? Often you will already own items that can be used for a traditional theme. Items such as ribbon, scissors, tape, garland, and other materials are usually scattered about in drawers, closets and cabinets.

Try to use nature to help you decorate whenever possible. You can find holly berries, pine cones, branches and mistletoe almost everywhere. These items are free, earth friendly and they are so much fun to work with.

* Make your own evergreen trim; this requires a little bit of patience and practice. It will still beat paying $20 or more to purchase a living garland from the store. Just consider yourself to be the “Martha Stewart of the Forest”.

Other items that you may need for your Christmas decorating projects can be found at your local dollar store. You can also check out discounters and garage sales for necessities such as construction paper, artificial flowers, glue, lights, wreaths, bows, markers, colored pencils, paint, paper plates, glue sticks, Christmas bulbs, glitter, and all sizes of Styrofoam balls.

Make decorating fun. Make kid friendly decorations that are both eye- catching and cost efficient. Invite all your family members to participate in this kid-friendly project. Here are some easy to make crafts the whole family can enjoy doing.

* Make some life size outdoor ornament cutouts from posterboard and use them to decorate your door or porch. You can trim these cutouts with material from the craft store.

* Decorating trees and bushes with bows is colorful and affordable. Using bows that are one color is usually the best choice. It gives the yard a more “pulled together” appearance.

* Create some wall outdoor ornaments with ribbon and pine cones to hang on tree branches. If you add peanut butter and bird seed to the pine cones the birds will appreciate it.

* You can make your own luminaries at home. All you need for ice luminaries are some empty quart size milk containers or some large buckets. You can even make Christmas luminaries from some plain tin cans.

Tin Can Luminaries

1. Use clean tin cans of different sizes for this project. Make sure the cut top is smooth and safe. Remove the labels from the cans and fill them with water.

2. Place them in the freezer. The frozen water in the cans will prevent them from denting or collapsing as you create Christmas designs on their surfaces.

3. When you have solid ice in your tin cans, you can safely make designs using nails and a hammer. For fancier designs, a hole punch works great.

4. Be creative with your design and make sure the light will be able to shine through.

5. Remove the ice, place votive candles inside the cans and decorate your front walk, yard or porch.

Here is another idea that can be used to decorate the exterior of your home for Christmas.

Decorative Door Greeting

Items needed:

Garland in the following colors: green, silver, gold, red

Ribbon (red, green, silver, gold)

Tape (or thumb tacks)

Scissors

Fun and festive wrapping paper (Christmas themed)

Construction paper

Color pencils (or markers)

Glitter

Trim a piece of colorful wrapping paper so that it will fit the length of your front door. Attach the wrapping paper to your door with either invisible tape (so there won’t be glue marks when you remove it) or thumb tacks. Next you will need to cut two pieces of red and silver garland the width of the door. Twist the garland together. Cut ¾ inch green ribbon and tie the ends of the garland. Cut two pieces of green and gold garland together. Cut ¾ inch silver ribbon and tie both ends of the garland. Use thumb tacks to secure the garland on the door. Cut four pieces of garland, (your choice of colors) the height of the door. Twist the first two pieces of the garland together. Now you can twist the next two pieces of garland together. Use thumb tacks to secure the garland in place on the door.

Making a Greeting Card for the Door

Fold the construction paper in half.

* Write a holiday greeting to people coming to your door on this card. Brightly colored markers or pencils work well for this.

* Using a brightly colored pen or a glitter pen to trace your greeting adds nice touch.

* Once you have finished the card, place it at the center of the door.

* For a different style, cover your door with cards. The cards can all be filled in – or you can include a pen so people can add their own message.

Learning how to decorate the exterior of your home for Christmas does not mean that you have to spend a lot of money. This should be a fun project that lets you add your personal style statement to the season’s festivities.
